Been lagging on the blogging but I’ve been busy for a vagabond. LOL. Check out some progress pics of a new custom piece I’m working on. A little under the gun since it’s supposed to be done by Friday, but for a day or so, it’s coming along fine.

So Randall, the artist responsible for putting together the Skate This Art (www.skatethisart.com) show last month has taken some remaining decks which didn’t sell and displaying them at Cafe Francisco (www.cafefrancisco.com) at 2161 Powell St. in San Francisco. The new display begins on June 8th and will be up for a month. All remaining decks will be priced at $200 ea. with a portion of the proceeds benefiting a local non-profit community group, The North Beach Citizens (www.northbeachcitizens.org) Go and check out the art. I think my Kelch Monster is there…but I’m not sure. I’ll have to go check. It might be That’s That.

MM..FOOD?

Been working on more new pieces…don’t really know where this one is going…but i’ll keep y’all posted. you never know if this will turn out dope or not. lol. I have this extra piece I was working on for Skate This Art, but it didn’t get included since I could only submit two pieces.
Anyways, I had these great frames with plaques on them that I picked up from Scraps a few months ago, but I never got around to doing anything on them…so I thought it’d be nice to mount the ‘ballskin’ deck to the plaque.
So…how to prep the plaque. I had ran out of gesso so I stripped it, sandpapered it down to the masonite. I thought it was pressboard or something, but its masonite apparently. I ended up gluing my MM..FOOD poster to the plaque part…then sketching out maybe a painting for the background to fill it in. I dunno…it’s getting there but I don’t know if Im gonna still put the ballskin deck on it now. We’ll see. More pics as the progress progresses.

So…I was in the hideout, watching Make It Happen with Kristina and Louis came over to smoke a little. Anyways, after the movie was over we were on the ol’ blog here watching the Street Fighter video since I was working on the Pac-Man piece and ended up coming up with a name for the Pac-Man piece, “Nothing Personal”. Hehe. Took some new pics of the progress. Check’em out below.

Random pics I took the last couple of days on my phone…which isn’t even working but I carry it around. Enjoy the randomness.
I’ve been working and reworking and reworking that Pac-Man piece. It’s funny to see the evolution of the painting from beginning to weird wtf middle to end. I threw a DOOM mask on Manny…couldn’t help myself. Then I wasn’t feeling it and just went ahead and put Manny back up on there. Mind you, it’s rough, but I do have a good idea where it’s going. So…this is where it’s at. I’ll keep taking more pics as it evolves. Peacers.
This video is so awesome I just had to add it. LOL.
Also in the works is a new piece i’m tentatively calling “Bi-Carbonate” It’s a nice big canvas…and I wanted to make it a clean piece with alot of negative space. This is where that’s at now.
New Canvas update

So I started painting on that new canvas I stretched the other day [see: New Canvas] and I was going through alot of pics…of course I could’ve done another DOOM piece, but I don’t want to play that out and it’s starting to get there. LOL.
Anyways, I decided to do a Pac-Man piece, Manny Pacquiao. I found alot of cool pics but I didn’t want to use any of them on this new canvas. The one I chose I think is from a new Pacquiao tee.
Anyways…I was painting the close-up of his face, to make it look all dramatic and shit, but everyone I asked thought it didn’t look like Pac. I showed them my reference pic, which I had zoomed into his profile and zoomed it out and everyone was like…”Oooooh, it looks like him now.” Also…it started looking like this old RZA piece I did a few years back.
Hehe…so, I trashed it and started on the fuller pic with his fists in the foreground. Check out the progress so far.

Made a nice, new canvas by stretching some canvas over an old silkscreen frame and goin’ at it with the ol’ staple gun. Hehe…Check out the pics below. It turned out pretty nice. Much better than the first canvas I pulled.

- staple away
- it’s getting there
- so fresh and so clean, clean
- it’s gesso, it’s gesso time
- obligatory artsy close-up
- pourin’ the gesso

- after the second coat
- Finally done after three coats
